Next year, Cranberry Township will host a program on the mental health of first responders.
The event is slated for Jan. 15 inside the Cranberry Township Municipal Center and hosted by the Cranberry Area Diversity Network.
Officials say the daily work of first responders and emergency workers requires interactions with people who are injured, frightened, sick or violent…and those interactions can have an effect on workers’ mental health.
The keynote presentation at January’s event will be given by Executive Director of the Cranberry Township Emergency Medical Service Jim Kelly, whose agency has experienced several tragic losses from work-related stress. Kelly’s presentation will discuss the impact emergency work has on first responders’ families; the importance of self-care; and the long-term effects of trauma and PTSD.
The event is free and registration is not required.
