It’s that time of year again for the 47th annual Fort Armstrong Folk Festival.
The festival begins at 5 p.m. Thursday and runs through 6 p.m. Sunday at Kittanning’s Riverfront Park.
Featured activities include arts and crafts, horse and carriage rides, local musicians, kids activities, various demonstrations and great food. An historical encampment from the Civil War era is also planned.
“Throughout the festival each day, we’re going to have a variety of things happening, probably most importantly, our artists market,” Jessica Coil, executive director, said. “That’s all handmade arts and crafts. We have well over 70 vendors this year, which is more than we’ve had in a number of years. I have 19 new vendors coming in that we’ve never even seen before so it’s a really exciting time.”
There is also a Saturday morning 5K starting at 8 a.m. Fireworks will be launched from the Allegheny River at 10 p.m. on Saturday.
“We have the John T. Crawford Camp 43 that comes in and does a Civil War encampment,” Coil said. “You’ll see they’re all in their attire from the Civil War era. They have a lot of displays and they will talk to all of our festival goers about life in that time and what they used, what they did, how they lived.”
