A former Pine Richland teacher pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing nearly $200,000 while serving as treasurer of the teachers union.
Edward Maritz Jr., 45, of McKees Rocks was sentenced to a year of house arrest with work release, followed by six years’ probation.
He was also ordered to pay $182,000 in restitution to the insurance company that covered the losses incurred by the Pine Richland Education Association.
He allegedly admitted to investigators that he wrote more than 150 checks to himself and avoided detection by copying and pasting the signatures of audit committee members on certification forms.
