Former Pittsburgh Pirate Tucupita Marcano is facing a lifetime ban from baseball for betting. Marcano is now part of the San Diego Padres organization, but is accused of betting on Pirates games while he was on the injured list last season after suffering a season-ending knee injury last July. Marcano was part of a trade with San Diego that sent Adam Frazier to the Padres at the trade deadline in July 2021. He played a career-high 75 games last year when he helped replace Oneil Cruz at shortstop after Cruz injured his ankle early in the season. He returned to the Padres in a waiver transaction last November.
