Moving beyond just admitting that Butler has a drug problem will be one of the themes of Wednesday’s first meeting for a new Neighborhood Drug Watch.
City resident and three-term councilwoman Kathy Kline is leading the effort.
“We know the statistics,” Kline said in an interview with Butler Radio. “We know the heartache. I think the city has owned the problem. We know we have a problem. So now, it’s time to move out of the problem and into the solution. We have the power and the resources within our own community to make a difference. We can take Butler back.”
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. inside the Butler City Public Safety Building.
After years of attending workshops about mobilizing concerned citizens, Kline would like this organization to focus on education, recovery and law enforcement. She says the only way this will work is if the entire community gets involved.
“It can’t just be one or two people,” she said. “It has to be all of us as a community to get on board with this. This is where the initiative comes in and if you see something, say something. Report it. There’s various things that you can do.”
The meeting is free and open to any member of the public interested in being part of the solution to the drug problem in our community.
