A former Cranberry Township man charged with killing a University of Pittsburgh student last year will stand trial.
A judge made that decision on Friday. 21-year-old Matthew Darby, a Seneca Valley High School grad and former basketball standout, will now go before a jury on homicide and other charges even though his attorney argued that prosecutors only had circumstantial evidence.
Darby is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Alina Sheykhet, in her off-campus apartment in October. Police say he then fled to South Carolina, where a witness called police after seeing him trying to break into a home.
