Flu activity is picking up in Pennsylvania.
Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine says the flu is widespread across the state with more than 6,400 laboratory confirmed cases, including about 2,000 in the past two weeks.
“This is what we expect. This is what flu does every year- it increases in December and peaks in January and February,” Levine said.
Eight Pennsylvanians have died from the flu so far this season. There have been no pediatric deaths.
Health officials say it’s still not too late to get a flu shot. Free flu shots are available this week at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
