After a relatively quiet flu season last year, it’s come back in a big way.
So far, the Department of Health has confirmed nearly 17,000 cases of the flu across the state. That comes after last year’s flu season which only had 4,000.
A majority of the confirmed strains are Type A in Pennsylvania.
Locally, Butler County has had over 170 flu cases so far.
Health officials say the rise was expected after heavy mitigation efforts were in place last winter to curb the spread of COVID.
