Nearly two weeks after quick and heavy rainfall devastated parts of the City of Butler and Butler Township, the cleanup remains ongoing.
Beginning Monday, July 17, dumpsters are now located at three locations in the City of Butler:
- Hayes Avenue by Shiloh Baptist Church
- Battery Warehouse parking lot in back
- Broad Street Elementary School main entrance
If you can’t transport items to a dumpster, the city’s Public Works Department will continue to pick up items that are curbside. Residents are asked to keep hazardous materials separate, including items like paint and oil cans and anything combustible. A flyer will be distributed to city residents this week explaining further cleanup of those items.
Anyone in the City of Butler or Butler Township in need of having appliances hauled away due to damages in the flood should call 724-525-0137. All items must be outside for easy access.
If you live in the city and still have six or more inches of water in your basement, you are asked to contact the city fire department at 724-283-3100. If you live in Butler Township, you should call the township building at 724-283-3430 and ask for Marci.
For financial assistance for repairs not covered by insurance, residents should call the Center for Community Resources Information and Referral Line at 724-431-3748.
All residents within the affected flooded areas of the City of Butler and Butler Township who have not yet been contacted by the American Red Cross should contact 211 for assistance. After providing some pertinent information to 211, you will be given a number to call the American Red Cross for an assessment.

If you would like to help the victims of the recent flooding in Butler, there are still several ways to still do so.
Monetary donations can be made to the BERI Fund, which stands for the Butler Emergency Relief Initiative. The fund is administered by the United Way of Butler. You can donate by check or over the phone. Call 724-285-4883 select Option 3 or you may send your check payable to BERI to United Way at 407A W. Jefferson Street, Butler, PA 16001.
The First United Methodist Church on East North Street in Butler City is continuing to collect cleaning supplies, especially all-purpose degreaser, garbage bags and mops. These items can be donated Monday through Friday, July 17-21, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
