It is official: Marc-Andre Fleury has been drafted by the expansion Las Vegas Golden Knights. Fleury will be joined by four other former Penguins on the new team. James Neal was drafted from Nashville. Deryk Engelland was selected from Calgary. David Perron taken from St. Louis and Chris Thorburn from Winnipeg.
Sidney Crosby was the lone NHL Award winner last night in Las Vegas. Crosby won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy for leading the NHL with 44 goals last season. Edmonton’s Connor McDavid was voted to the Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP over Crosby.
Columbus head coach John Tortorella won the Jack Adams Award as the league’s top coach. Penguins coach Mike Sullivan received first-place votes, but finished eighth overall.
Goaltender Matt Murray finished fourth in the Calder Cup voting, for the league’s top rookie, which was awarded to Toronto’s Austin Matthews.
The Pens have learned their home opener for the 2017-2018 season will be against St. Louis October 4th at PPG Paints Arena. The ceremony for the raising of the Stanley Cup banner will be held prior to the game.
