The body of a man who went missing at Moraine State Park on Thursday night has been found.
According to our news partners at WPXI, the body of 51-year-old Walter Powell of Gibsonia was found around 10:20am Saturday morning near Crescent Bay.
Authorities say that their search began on Friday when Powell’s son reported to the park’s ranger office that his dad, who was fishing in his canoe at the park Thursday night, was missing. Powell’s son also said that his dad’s truck was still parked in one of Moraine’s parking lot.
Officials say that over 30 individuals responded to the initial search on Friday, which finished up at dusk. Saturday’s search, which included just over 40 people, started at 8am.
While the cause of Powell’s death is still unknown, rescuers believe that Powell had a life preserver with him.
