It’s that time of the year when fireworks and fires are top of mind of many officials.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, in 2011, fireworks caused over 17,000 reported fires, including 1,200 structure fires and 400 vehicle fires. These fires resulted in around 8 deaths and 40 injuries and $32 million in direct property damage.
On Independence Day in a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported than on any other day. Fireworks are the cause of the fires more than any other on the 4th.
