No one was injured as a result of a fire that damaged a couple of garages in Butler Township Monday afternoon. Butler Township Fire District Station 3 Chief Dave Bestwick:
“When we got there, there were leaves and brush debris burning that had spread into one garage and the garage was starting to catch fire and it was approaching a second detached garage at that time.”
Crews from Butler Township and the Butler VA arrived on scene in the 200 block of South Eberhart Road shortly after noon for a fire that was getting too close to a building. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly and without needing further backup.
According to Bestwick, a nearby homeowner was burning leaves and branches when the wind picked up and the fire damaged structures belonging to a different owner.
“Not heavily damaged; there was some melted siding on the one and some other damage to the second and the Butler Township Fire Marshal will be investigating that further.”
The Butler Township Fire Department would like to remind residents to have a garden hose nearby when burning debris outside on a windy day to minimize the chances of a fire spreading out of control.
