Firefighters were called to a Buffalo Township polling place Tuesday morning after a vehicle struck and sheared off a gas meter.
The incident actually happened at the Sarver Volunteer Fire Company station on Elliot Road.
“About 10:30 a.m., one of the voters came to the fire station because it’s a polling place, went to park in the grass due to the large number of people and struck and sheared off a gas meter,” Mike George, assistant chief of the Sarver Volunteer Fire Company said.
Firefighters arrived at the station within minutes and were able to shut the gas line off.
“We evaluated the area with gas meters and found the levels in a safe condition,” he said. “We never needed to evacuate the polling place.”
George said the driver of the vehicle that hit the gas meter was not hurt.
