No one was injured as a result of a house fire Wednesday in Center Township.
The fire started about 11 a.m. at a home on Glenwood Way- near Route 38.
Several firefighters were called to the scene- including Unionville firefighter Mike Iscrupe.
“When I arrived on scene, I found smoke coming out of the east side of the house,” Iscrupe said. “I saw an elderly woman going back into the house. I went up and encouraged her not to go back in, and she cooperated with me. We took her down the stairs.”
Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control. Officials say the 89-year-old woman that lives in the home was able to escape OK, but it’s been a trying few weeks for her. Last week, flooding forced the woman from her home.
“We actually rescued her a week ago when we had the heavy rains,” he said. “Her property was flooded.”
The Red Cross is now assisting the woman. The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, but it’s believed to be accidental. The woman reportedly told firefighters she had lit a match to look in the closet of one of the bedrooms because the light bulb was out. After laying the match down, which she thought was out, she saw smoke.
