You may have noticed something odd in Center Township on Sunday. A home was burning down and firefighters weren’t trying to put it out.
Instead, crews were using the house fire as a training exercise.
Volunteer firefighters intentionally set fires inside a home on North Duffy Road and then worked on different scenarios to put the blaze out.
About 25 firefighters, instructors and support staff participated in Sunday’s exercise, which was one class in a series held over the weekend as part of the Butler County Fire Chief’s Association annual Fire School.
The Center Township home did eventually burn to the ground. The township bought the property last year and had plans to demolish it anyway.
