It is National Fire Prevention Week.
It’s held every year at this time to remind residents to remain vigilant about protecting their families and themselves from fires. The week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire in October of 1871 that killed more than 250 people and left 100,000 homeless.
This year’s focus is on smoke alarms with the slogan ‘Hear The Beep Where You Sleep’ reminding residents that every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm.
