No one was injured in small apartment building fire in Butler on Thursday.
The blaze started in a four-unit apartment building in the 300 block of West Cunningham Street about 2 p.m.
“It’s a rental unit. There are four units in there, and two of them are vacant. The second floor apartment deck in the back is where the fire originated. The person in the second floor of the affected apartment was cooking when they noticed smoke,” Butler City Fire Department Captain Jim Kaufman said.
All residents were able to safely evacuate the building. Crews were on scene for about one hour. Around $6,000 in damage was estimated to be done to the building.
Investigators believe a bucket being used as an ashtray may have been the cause.
