The Butler County commissioners will publicize quarterly reports to help control costs and increase transparency.
Board Chairman Leslie Osche said Wednesday that during the year’s first quarter, the county spent $17 million out of the general fund, which is nearly 28 percent of what was budgeted for this year.
Osche said she wasn’t “happy” with the findings but was pleased that the county now has a report to monitor and use as a guide moving forward.
“We will continue to do this,” Osche said. “You will see more details as we move through quarterly.”
She stressed the county has more work to do with the budget but said expenses would be higher if significant changes had not been made earlier this year.
“At the beginning of the year, department heads said they want to be less reactive and more proactive, this will enable them to do that,” she said.
