Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman is now agreeing to at least one debate this fall.
Politico reports that his announcement comes after his opponent, Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, criticized Fetterman for not scheduling a debate. Current Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey echoed those criticism at an event with Oz earlier this week.
“It’s clear he’s being dishonest. He’s either not as well as he claims to be or he’s afraid to be called out for the radical policies he supports. It’s one or the other,” Toomey said.
Fetterman’s campaign has said that he is rehabbing from a stroke he suffered earlier this year. They say while Fetterman’s recovery is going well, he struggles with hearing from time-to-time. The Fetterman campaign has also criticized the Oz campaign’s recent attacks on Fetterman’s health.
Fetterman said he’s aiming for a mid-October date for the debate, and that it would be on television. Oz’s campaign says they are awaiting more details before agreeing to a finalized debate plan.
