If you see groups of people capturing feral cats this weekend, they are most likely with local organizations trying to help the animals.
Frankie Friends Cat Rescue and Homeless Cat Management Team have scheduled to work this weekend in the Butler area. They will capture the animals, transport them to a mobile unit on Brownsdale Road off Route 8 South, spay the cats, and they return them to the area of capture after a day of rest and recovery.
There will be no cost to anyone for the services. The efforts and surgeries are being donated by Veterinarian and Professor, Dr. Becky Morrow.
Saturday is National Ferrel Cat Day and the teams will be honoring that by being in the area from October 16-18th.
You may see the teams in the ‘Island’ section of the city and Institute Hill.
Feral cats are the offspring of stray or abandoned pets that are not spayed or neutered. Female cats can become pregnant at five months of age and can give birth several times each year. Without early human contact, their kittens become feral and begin the cycle of breeding again.
