The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is planning to make use of an increase in federal funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill in order to continue some local projects while beginning others.
PennDOT’s Engineering District 10 Region which includes Butler County recently announced that the Route 228 Balls Bend Safety Improvement Project in Middlesex Township will continue this year. In addition to adding travel lanes in each direction and a center turn lane, this project will also include the construction of new structures and realignment of local road connections with new signalized intersections.
PennDOT is also beginning the $6.3 million Route 488 Portersville Bridge replacement project over Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township. This new structure will be a two-span composite steel multi-girder bridge. Although the interstate ramps will have short term detours during construction, traffic will be maintained at all times on Route 488.
A total of $112 million in additional federal funding is available to the Southwestern PA Commission Metropolitan Planning Organization which includes Butler, Armstrong, and Indiana counties.
