The FBI is confirming the identity of the man who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show Grounds.
The FBI says 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park is the “subject involved in the assassination attempt.”
In the statement from the FBI, there was no mention of motive.
At a press conference at the Butler Township Municipal Building, Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said searching for a motive was crucial to their investigation at this time.
Bivens also detailed the timeline of the events, saying that the shooter was able to fire shots before he was taken down by counterfire.
The type of weapon used in the shooting was also not identified.
Officials with the FBI did say that the shooter was outside the rally venue. Witnesses say they saw the shooter on top of a building at AGR International, which is at the corner of Whitestown Road and Evans City Road.
