Firefighters were called to the campus of Slippery Rock University on Tuesday night.
It was about 10 p.m. when crews responded to Patterson Hall on Field House Road.
According to a SRU spokesman, after the fire alarm initially went off, university police entered the building and smelled burning rubber. Police contacted the fire department, who cleared the building.
It was determined a faulty fan belt from an air handler was the cause and source of the smell, according to the school.
“There was no fire, no flames, no property damage and no injuries,” said Robb King, Associate Executive Director for Communication and Public Affairs at SRU.
Patterson Hall will be open for classes as usual on Wednesday.
According to SRU’s The Rocket, several fire trucks were on scene, including Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department’s ladder truck.
