We’ve been talking this month a lot about recovery and we wanted to turn our attention to families of those facing addiction.
Counselor Ruth Ann Durso, with the Butler Health System, says recovery is needed not only for those who are facing addiction, but for families as well. She says sometimes a family doesn’t realize just getting a loved one into a recovery program is not the last step, it’s the first. There’s a long journey after that.
Durso also says families can sometimes feel selfish or may question, ‘How does me helping me help them?” Durso stresses that families need a recovery process to go through in order to find emotional healing.
An event focused on the recovery process in Butler is going to be on August 31, 2017, which is National Opioid Overdose Prevention Day. It will be a day of education and a reminder to people that recovery happens.
The 9 AM morning session will be at the Government Center in Butler with a speaker focusing on the recovery process. An RSVP is required for this event due to limited space donna.eshenbaugh@butlerhealthsystem.org.
Another presentation will take place from 12n-2pm in Diamond Park, with the Butler County Commissioners in attendance, Judges in the specialty courts, and testimonies will be shared as well. This second session does not need an RSVP since there will be more space for seating.
