The fallen New Kensington police officer had several connections to Butler County.
Brian Shaw, 25, was a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in criminal justice. While at SRU, he was a kicker for the football team- playing in two state championships.
He graduated in 2013, went on to the Allegheny County Police Training Academy in 2014, and joined the New Kensington Police Department this past June.
Shaw is the second member of the 2011 SRU championship football team to be murdered. Middle linebacker Zach Sheridan was shot and killed in Pittsburgh in 2013.
A moment of silence for fallen Officer Shaw was held at Saturday’s SRU home basketball games.
