Fall officially begins this afternoon, but it sure doesn’t feel like it.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Tim Axford says temperatures are running 12 to 15 degrees above normal and will continue to do so through the middle of next week.
“We’ve been locked into high pressure for the last week and we’ll be locked in until Tuesday or Wednesday,” Axford said Friday.
High pressure means sunny, blue skies and very light winds. Humidity will build throughout the weekend and into early next week. Our temperatures will be in the mid-to upper 80s.
Is this weather we’ve been enjoying record-breaking? Axford says we won’t come close to breaking a record on Friday- we’d have to hit 94- but we could break some records early next week.
“Early next week, we could come real close,” he said.
According to WPXI-TV meteorologist Scott Harbaugh, the record high for Sunday is 90 degrees, set back in 1881. Sunday’s forecast is 87 degrees.
Enjoy it while it lasts, though. A cold front is expected to come into the region by Wednesday and transition us back to near-normal, or even below normal, temperatures.
