A faculty strike is a real possibility at the 14 Pennsylvania-owned universities and colleges.
State education employees that belong to the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, known as APSCUF, have been working under an expired contract for more than a year.
Negotiations on a new deal are underway but representatives from both sides say talks have not been smooth. Union leaders say a faculty strike could be looming. Next week, APSCUF leaders will decide whether or not to let rank-and-file members vote for a strike.
Slippery Rock University in Butler County is one of the 14 state-owned schools. The fall semester beings on Monday, Aug. 29.
