If you are cooking Thanksgiving Day dinner, don’t forget to thaw out the turkey ahead of time.
Chef George Shroth from Tanglewood told our newsroom that you should take the bird from the freezer at least three days prior to Thanksgiving and thaw it out in your refrigerator. If you have an extra large bird, you might need to add a day.
Some experts say this is the most important step of preparing for your meal.
According to Butterball’s website, if you are going to use the ‘cold water’ thawing method, change the water every 30 minutes to keep the turkey chilled. Estimate minimum thawing time as 30 minutes for every pound.
