Evans City’s only grocery store will close its doors in a month.
Viola’s Market on East Main Street- at the corner of North Jackson- will close after 55 years on July 27.
Owner Frank Viola said his great uncle Rocco Viola Sr. opened the store in 1964. He said it’s bittersweet to close up shop- and that the town has been very good to him- but he’s ready to retire and slow down.
“It’s a hard thing to do,” Viola said. “But in the same breath, I need to slow down and spend some time with my family.”
Viola said the property is currently under contract with a buyer, but he wouldn’t elaborate. He said he doesn’t know the buyer’s plans for the spot.
“I really do not know what’s going to happen with it right now,” he said.
