Local law enforcement apprehended a juvenile that escaped from custody on Thursday in the City of Butler.
The teenage male was a detainee of a youth treatment facility when he got away from George Junior Republic staff about 12:30 p.m. during a transport. The male ran from the area of the Marathon gas station on South Main Street to a home on Negley Avenue.
“Officers received calls reporting that this male made entry into a residence at 420 Negley Ave. from the rear door,” according to a news release.
Butler City Police, county sheriff’s deputies and probation officers searched for the juvenile and surrounded the home. Officers found the suspect hiding in the basement and he was arrested without incident.
Police say the boy will be charged with escape in juvenile court.
George Junior is a detention center in Springfield Township, Mercer County for court-adjudicated youth.
