Hendrick Motorsports and Monster Energy Series driver Chase Elliott have agreed to a contract extension that’ll keep him behind the wheel of the Number-24 Chevrolet through the 2022 season. In 2016, Elliott replaced the retired Jeff Gordon and won Rookie of the Year honors. This year, Elliott is sixth in the standings – with a best finish of second place earlier this month at Michigan International Speedway – and is on track for a post-season playoff berth.
NASCAR X-finity Series drivers will carry the names of military units and installations on their windshields during Friday night’s Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 at Daytona International Speedway. United States Armed Forces military installations like U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral; the U-S-S William P. Lawrence; and the Second Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division are among the units and installations from all five branches of the U-S Armed Forces that will replace the customary X-finity Series windshield strip.
Fans will have the opportunity to write the name of a service member close to their heart on a small poster and “Rise to Honor” them during pace laps preceding Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 Monster Energy Series race Saturday night. And for the ninth consecutive year, Daytona International Speedway will recognize three Congressional Medal of Honor recipients during race weekend. All three of the 2017 honorees served in the Vietnam War. They are: Captain Thomas Kelly, U.S. Navy … Command Sergeant Major Gary Littrell, U.S. Army … and Colonel Walter Joseph Marm, also U.S. Army.
