The next step toward returning water service and eventually students to Summit Township Elementary School is expected to be taken today.
Water from the newly-installed Pennsylvania American Water line is scheduled to be connected to the school today.
Water will be run continuously through the lines with the goal of eliminating the corrosion that started when well-water became contaminated. It is unknown how long this process will last but water engineers Gannet Fleming are expected to begin running a series of tests in the near future to get new data.
Summit Township students will begin the new school year where last year finished, at Broad Street Elementary, before eventually being transferred back to Summit.
The school was closed in February after high levels of lead and copper were found in the drinking water. The school used to get its water from a well on the property but will now be connected to public lines.
