Dale Earnhardt, Jr. won the Coke Zero 400 early Monday morning after beginning the race from the pole position. Earnhardt held off Denny Hamlin and teammate Jimmie Johnson for the victory as a wild crash began at the finish line. Contact between Hamlin and Kevin Harvick triggered a crash involving 22 cars, and sent the number-three car driven by Austin Dillon into the catch fence. Dillon’s car was completely destroyed, but he walked away unhurt. The race was delayed by rain for four hours, and didn’t begin until after 11:30pm Sunday night. The race was moved from its normal July 4th running because NBC wanted a prime time television audience.
Lernerville Speedway got preliminary action in before rain took over Friday night, forcing the rescheduling of the RUSH Late Model feature to July 24th. 38 cars from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia had turned out for the event.
Lee Jacobs and Ryan Smith were the winners of the two-night All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car events at Mercer Raceway Park over the holiday weekend.
