A Lancaster Township home was destroyed by fire early this morning (Monday).
Chief Scott Garing of the Harmony Fire District told our newsroom, “It was dispatched as a chimney fire. When we arrived we had smoke and flames shooting out every window of the home.”
Firefighters responded to a home in the 500 block of Little Creek Road shortly after 2:30 a.m. Both the home and a detached garage were a complete loss with damage estimated at $350,000 not including the contents of the structures. The cause remains under investigation.
No one was hurt but the weather posed a challenge for units responding to the scene.
“The icing conditions and snow just complicated everything because you have to walk slower and move slower and everything gets harder when it’s so cold outside. Just something as simple as walking across the driveway makes things difficult. We had a significant amount of folks slip and fall, luckily none of them were injured,” Garing explained.
Over 50 firefighters including those from Connoquenessing, Prospect, Portersville, Cranberry, Callery, Evans City, and Adams Area were called out to the scene which was not cleared for over seven hours.
