A Renfrew man is in jail after leading police on a chase through parts of northern Butler County over the weekend.
The incident started about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. An officer attempted to pull over a Dodge Durango traveling on Route 8 at Sunset Drive in Center Township for numerous traffic violations.
Police say the driver- later identified as 51-year-old Jay Edward Vinroe- did not stop and instead continued north on Route 8, at times going over 100 miles per hour.
Officers say the chase continued for roughly 21 miles on several roads including Hall Road, Route 308, Route 38 and Pine Tract Road. Officers eventually got the vehicle to spin out but then Vinroe allegedly took off into the woods on foot.
He was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
Police believe Vinroe was under the influence of alcohol and had marijuana on him. The license plate on his Durango was registered to a different vehicle.
No one was injured.
