A woman was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital on Tuesday afternoon after crashing her Jeep into a tree.
The accident happened at Moraine State Park about 3 p.m. in the Lakeview Beach area, which is the swimming area on the park’s North Shore. Park Manager Dustin Drew says the road the crash happened on is shut down during the winter months and has not yet reopened to traffic this spring.
“The main entrance to that area has a locked gate,” Drew said. “There are other ways for vehicles to access the road that are closed to the public, like an access road. We’re guessing that’s how the woman gained access.”
Drews says a park staff member was in the area at the time of the crash, saw the vehicle and tried to help. A medical helicopter landed at the park to transport the woman to a hospital.
State police are investigating and have not yet released the woman’s name.
