The Butler man accused of leading police on a chase and then crashing into a state police car injuring a trooper remains in the Butler County Prison this morning.
David Coleman, 50, is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
The incident started about 4:30 p.m. Friday. Police allege they attempted to pull Coleman over for a traffic violation on Hansen Avenue (at Reconnaissance Drive) in the City of Butler but he did not stop. He allegedly continued to drive onto Route 68, Duffy Road and Whitestown Road, leading police on a slow to moderate speed chase.
City police called for help from Butler Township and State Police. After turning from South Duffy Road onto Whitestown Road, Coleman struck a marked Pennsylvania State Police patrol car head-on.
The trooper was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. The trooper has not been identified. An update on the trooper’s condition was not available on Monday morning.
Neither Coleman- nor his passenger, which was a 13-year-old boy,-were injured, according to police.

The man accused of crashing into a Pennsylvania State Police patrol car and injuring an officer has been in trouble with the law in the past.
According to court records, David Coleman of Butler is awaiting trial on driving under the influence and other charges following a mid-January traffic stop.
In that case, police say Coleman was pulled over for allegedly making an illegal turn in the city of Butler. Tests revealed he had a blood alcohol level just over .08, which is considered intoxicated under state law. He was also allegedly driving with a suspended license.
Coleman was free on his own recognizance when Friday’s incident occurred. Driving under the influence charges are pending from Friday’s case until blood test results come back.
