Saturday will mark the first time, to our knowledge, that there has ever been an ice skating rink in downtown Butler.
The 23′ x 45′ synthetic rink will be set up in the Main Street parking lot of Peoples TWP from noon until 4 p.m. as part of the activities surrounding the Spirit of Christmas Parade.
The company behind the rink- Artificial Ice Events- was founded by national competitive speed skater Michael Gallant to make ice skating possible in any temperature. Artificial or Synthetic ice is made up of a special plastic polymer that best resembles the consistency of a giant white cutting board. The synthetic ice rink is pieced together in 4’ × 8’ sheets and is then sprayed with a special solution that reduces friction and enhances glide and speed, closely mimicking the traditional ice skating experience.
On Saturday in butler, a $3 per person fee includes your skate rental and a 15-minute skate session.
The rink is presented through a partnership of Peoples: Your Hometown Natural Gas Company and the Butler Media Group.
