The American Red Cross is experiencing a critical blood shortage and eligible donors are encouraged to donate during two upcoming local blood drives.
The Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora will host a summer blood drive on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 12:30 p.m.-6 p.m. The church is located on Chicora Road (Route 68).
St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on West Jefferson Street in Butler will also host a blood drive on the same day- Tues, Aug. 23 from 12 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
The Red Cross is gifting anyone who donates blood through the end of August (whether it’s at the two upcoming drives in Butler County or different drives) a $5 Amazon gift card.
Officials say the summer months can be among the most challenging times of the year for blood and platelet donations as regular donors delay giving while they take vacations and participate in summer activities.
Making an appointment is easy -download the Blood Donor App at 3cu.be/blood, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
