Donations from two families will fund an expansion project at Slippery Rock University’s Storm Harbor Equestrian Center.
Gary and Anita Rathburn and Paul and Carolyn Rizza recently contributed separate gifts to the facility. The Rathburn’s pledge will green light a $500,000 project to expand the facility and the Rizza’s $400,000 gift will extend the center’s endowment to nearly $2 million. It will also allow for an additional full-time position.
The facility provides equine-assisted activates and therapies for children and adults with disabilities. SRU students also get hands-on experience at the center serving individuals with disabilities.
This is the facility’s first expansion since it opened 12 years ago. Construction is expected to begin next year.
