The Los Angeles Dodgers won the opening game of the World Series 8-3 last night over the Tampa Bay Rays. Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw allowed just one run and two hits and struck out eight in six innings. He began the game retiring the first 13 batters he faced. Tyler Glasnow started for the Rays and displayed the wildness that frustrated the Pittsburgh Pirates organization during his time here. After matching Kershaw with three scoreless innings, he allowed six earned runs on just three hits, walking six and striking out eight in his 4-1/3rd innings of work.
The Dodgers offense included a two-run home run by Cody Bellinger in the fourth inning and a solo shot by Mookie Betts in the sixth. Betts also stole two bases in the four-run fifth inning, and with Corey Seager also stealing a base, the Dodgers became the first team to steal three bases in a single World Series inning since 1912.
The game was played at the neutral site of the Texas Rangers’ new stadium due to the pandemic, with only some 11,300 socially-distanced fans in the stands. That was the least amount of fans to see a World Series game since the 1909 match-up between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers.
Game 2 will be played tonight beginning at 8pm.
