The Butler School District is moving ahead with a plan to hire additional staff to accommodate their large Latin program.
The school board voted to post an opening for a part-time Latin teacher, as well as a half-time paraprofessional. District administrators mentioned that they may already have a candidate on staff that could be transitioned but it is unknown how that would impact other responsibilities.
Over 30 students were unable to enroll in Latin II, III or IV for the upcoming school year due to the two current Latin teachers already having full classes and full schedules. The hirings are estimated to cost the district an additional nearly $60,000 in salary.
Eighth graders currently signed up for the introductory level course will be able to continue in that class under the proposed plan. A special meeting will likely be held before the first day of school to make hiring for the positions official.
