The Butler Area School District is moving ahead with a plan to alter traffic flow near Center Township Elementary School.
District administrators informed the school board of the plan Monday night. It includes making the lower lane onto Mercer Road one-way out of school property. The top of the hill on Mercer Road would continue to operate as an exit or entrance.
The district believes this change would help eliminate congestion problems during drop-off and dismissal. Making the lower lane one-way out would also allow for the district to add about 30 additional parallel parking spaces along that drive.
The cost to make the change is expected to be about $500 for line-painting and new signage. The district continues to consider another project to add an additional 26 parking spaces next to the school.
