The Mars Area School Board is continuing to meet with support staff as a deadline to accept their latest contract offer.
The next scheduled negotiation session with custodial, paraprofessional and secretarial support staff will take place next week (Wed, Aug. 16).
The board presented the support staff employees with a Sept. 1 deadline after which the board plans to move ahead with plans to hire a third party contractor to provide custodial services. Two current Mars support staff employees and one former employee spoke at Wednesday night’s school board meeting in opposition to the deadline and contract offer.
Mars employs around 95 total support staff employees. Those employees have been without a contract for the past two years.
