The Butler Area School Board is considering dropping a plan to add more parking to Center Township Elementary School.
According to a Stantec representative, the Center Township engineer who reviewed the plan would not approve it without the addition of a storm water retention trench.
This modification would require a redesign and bid of the project with an additional $10,000 in expense. The project was originally estimated to cost $19,000. The district would also be responsible for the maintenance of any water retention ponds added to the property.
The district could petition the Center Township Supervisors directly but the Stantec representative doubted that the supervisors would approve the project over the objection of their engineer.
The request for additional parking was made by the building principal last year but modifications on the lower drive have allowed for more parking. Administrators are going to check to see if parking is still a problem before the board decides how to proceed.
