The Butler Area School District will be providing AK Steel with a partial refund of real estate taxes due to a recent court decision.
Officials say $30,000 will be withdrawn from the district’s general fund and returned to AK for over-payment in 2014-2015 as required by law.
AK Steel is continuing to appeal a decision that did not award as much refund as they were anticipating but $30,000 is the least of what the court determined that they overpaid.
AK is also among the property owners challenging their tax rate for 2015-2016 so the district could be dealing with even lower revenue as costs continue to rise.
