Every student who requested Latin in the Butler Area School District has been accommodated, according to Butler Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools Dr. Brian Slamecka.
Slamecka made that statement after the Butler School Board voted to hire Patricia Hay as a part-time Latin teacher at the Senior High School at a meeting Monday.
Hay was previously scheduled to be a full-time paraprofessional at the Center Avenue School but was transferred to the new position while continuing to work in a part-time paraprofessional role at the Senior High as well.
Hay’s combined salary from the two positions with benefits is estimated to be a bit over $50,000. Special education administrators believe they will be able to accommodate Hay’s transfer with a part-time paraprofessional transfer into Center Avenue school but no new hiring needed.
