A local man is facing additional charges after police say that he made several shanks while in the Butler County Prison.
According to a criminal complaint, 29-year-old Keith Reges has been charged with misdemeanor possession of weapons or implements of escape.
On May 13th an inmate at the prison found two shanks under his mattress and turned them in. During the course of an investigation and interviews with other inmates, police determined Reges was responsible.
Reges initially denied making the shanks, saying that he was trying to make a toothpick. Eventually he allegedly admitted to crafting the weapons for self defense from an inmate whose relative Reges was in jail for assaulting.
