A total of 47 disciplinary actions were filed across the state in May for unsafe digging practices- including one in Butler County.
The local violation occurred in June of last year when Allegheny Mineral Corporation was excavating on Barron Road in Worth Township.
West Penn Power was fined $1,000 for responding that the site was clear of facilities when they had active lines in the area. Allegheny Mineral Corporation was fined $500 for releasing a project to bed before the final design was complete.
The PA One Call Damage Prevention Committee is tasked with reducing the number of hits on underground utilities. This committee is part of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s independent Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement.
State law requires contractors and residents to contact PA One Call by dialing 8-1-1 at least three business days before an excavation so utilities can mark where lines are located.
